What Is Black Envelope?
Bob Kohler’s Black Envelope is a truly diabolical secret based on an idea from top Scottish card man Peter Duffie, tipped to Bob by Frank Garcia. In typical Kohler fashion, Bob then honed the concept and created five real-world, practical routines which have all held a steady place in his professional repertoire for over ten years. Here is just one of the effects possible: Imagine showing your audience a black, letter-sized envelope, which you place in full view on the table. A card is then selected and signed by a spectator. Instantly, the signed card appears inside of the envelope! And get this-no palming!

Brad's Gold Shells -- From the olden days of carnivals, city back alleys, to magic shops, the three shell game has fooled them all. We humbly introduce the set of shells that grip perfect and perform with an expert feel. The shells are made in brass then twice gold plated. Each set comes with three shells, a rubber green pea and a collector’s carrying case.
B'wave -- This is Dave's FAVORITE trick! A packet of four cards is shown. You tell the audeince that the cards are the four Queens, and that you have turned one of them face up as sort of a prediction. A spectator names one of the queens. The cards are spread, and the named queen is the ONLY CARD THAT IS FACE UP! Not only that, but it has a different colored back than the rest of the cards. If that is not enough, the other three cards are turned over, and they are TOTALY BLANK! Their named queen is the ONLY queen you have!
This is easy, and totaly amazing!
Card Through The Glass -- This is WAY COOL! A signed card is placed on a piece of plexi-glass. A second spectator then places his own signed business card on top of the playing card. Now a second piece of glass is placed on top of all, and everything is "rubber-banded" closed. You tell the audience to keep their eyes on the playing card, and not to blink. You spectator's jaws will hit the floor as the watch the card VISIBLY, and without ANY cover of ANY kind, MELT THROUGH THE GLASS!! This is a very eerie effect, and will blow 'em away! Highly recommended!
Cards of Cairo by Docc Hilford -- Docc Hilford's Cards of Cairo is a piece of apparent fortunetelling that's very easy to do and completely baffles any audience. Here's the effect:
The faces of three over-sized cards are shown to the audience. You explain that everyone will now take a mystical journey from the past, through the present and into the future.
You go on to explain that the journey began in the past when you wrote three predictions about a spectator and sealed them under plastic to the backs of each card. A spectator chooses a face-up card and when the card is turned over it reads, "You Will Choose This Card First" and it even goes on to say something about the spectator's future. Of course, everyone thinks it's just a joke and that all the cards say the same thing. But, when the second card chosen is turned over it reads, "This Card Will Be Picked Second!" The final card's prediction prognosticates that it will be the last of the spectator's selections, three for three!

Chair Suspension - Leslie -- This is one of my favorite small, portable, work surrounded Stage Illusions. It is the perfect 'BIG' trick for kids shows. Perfect for corporate work. Actually, in many ways this is the perfect illusion.
Here's what happens: In full view of the audience you open and set up two folding chairs. You then set a long board on them that has a folded drape sitting on top. You now open up the drape. A spectator or an assistant is placed on top of the board and the drape is wrapped around the assistant. With flourish you remove the chair supporting the feet! The assistant remains suspended above the floor supported apparently by the wooden board and the other chair back.
It gets better. You now REMOVE the board from beneath the assistant! (See the photo again!!!) The assistant is now suspended on AIR and the back of the ONE remaining chair! This looks great. The effect is very clean and can be performed OUTSIDE and SURROUNDED!
O.k., just reverse everything and you are finished. Note that the full apparatus is so compact that is is easily portable even in most small cars. Highly recommended!

Cigarette Up the Nose by Gary Kosnitzky -- Flat out this is the BEST version of this trick I have seen. Here what happens: You take a cigarette and VISIBLY push it up your nose. Get this: Your audience SEES the cork filter move slowly towards your nose. They SEE it go in. You open your move your hand to show it is empty! The Illusion is Perfect. Deep Astonishment -- A spectator cuts the deck to a random face down card. The card is covered with your wallet to keep it safe. You then ask the spectator to dig deep into her mind for a personal magic word. She has a free choice of almost any word she can imagine! Let's say her word is "rose". You then use her magic word "rose" to help you find the "soul mate" of the card that's under the wallet. It's a very cool trick! But what's in the wallet?
You open the wallet. Your fingers reach into its inner pocket and removes a packet of spare cards that you placed there last night. Their backs are of a different color than the deck you've been using!
You slowly and cleanly deal these cards from the wallet on to the table. The first card has a large "R" hand drawn on its back! The next card an "O"! The next an "S"! The final card an "E"...spelling out her magic word, "ROSE"!
No one says anything for a very long time. Finally a single word escapes your spectator's lips, "HOW?!"
This is as good as it sounds!

Die Box - Four Door Deluxe -- I haven’t been able to find a Die Box that I REALLY liked for a long time. THIS box is excellent and the price is RIGHT! What you get is a handcrafted mahogany four door die box with all the goodies. Extra ‘fake’ in the door, etc. This is a full size box with an excellent white die with black dots. If you have wanted to add Die Box to your show, you really should give this a try.
Effect: In front of you is a hat or box. You display a beautiful wooden box that has two doors in front and two door on top. Thus the box can be opened to show that it is empty. You now display a large white die that fits perfectly into one side of the rectangular box. You show ALL sides of the die and ask whether your audience would like to see the die FLY visibly or invisibly into the hat? They of course say VISIBLY....so you set the die visibly into the hat. O.k., funny gag. You remove the die and place it into the Die Box closing all the doors. Now, you OBVIOUSLY tip the box to the opposite side the die was placed in and your audience will hear a loud CLUNK! You open the door on the side that the die used to be on and declare the DIE HAS VANISHED!!! They say, “Open the other door.” So you close the first door, tip the box and open the other to show the die gone! You get the idea.
This is classic ‘Sucker’ magic at it’s best. Eventually, after all the build up including your ability to SHOW the die IS in the box, you open all four doors to show the die has in fact VANISHED from the box and appeared in the hat! Great trick that I performed for years.
Healed and Sealed -- It was the talk of the 2002 FFFF convention, performed by David Blaine in his national television special, "Vertigo" and now you, too will be able to literally devastate both magicians and laymen alike with Swedish magician Anders Moden's Healed and Sealed Soda.

Pro Viper II -- I can hardly think of a Parlor/Stage trick that I like better than my friend Terry Lunceford's PRO VIPER II Snake Basket routine. It is simply a killer, visual, commercial piece of magic that comes with a hilarious comedy routine to boot! Totally remote control it uses the latest in high tech remote systems to give you perfect and total control of the trick.
Here is the basic routine (Remember the video supplied with your Viper has Terry doing his routine at the Magic Castle in Hollywood...and it IS great!): A spectator is asked to come up on stage. She is asked to select a card and SIGN the card. The card is mixed back into the deck and the deck is placed openly next to a small basket on a table center stage. You now engage in some comedy byplay which leads to a colorful custom made spring snake leaping from the basket with the SELECTED AND SIGNED CARD IN IT'S MOUTH!!! It REALLY is the signed card! Card can be removed and handed to your assistant. This is a very strong and entertaining routine that can be made to work with almost any audience type.

Sharky -- EFFECT: Imagine...a card is selected from a red-backed Bicycle deck and signed by the spectator. The card is freely shown both front and back and lost in the deck. The magician then introduces his sidekick Sharky (a blue-backed Bicycle card with a sticker of a card shark on the back). Suddenly, the blue card changes to red and Sharky has vanished! While humming the theme from the movie Jaws, the magician starts searching through the deck for the missing blue card. When the blue-backed card is found with Sharky on the back it is turned over and seen to be the spectator's signed selection! But that's not all...the card is also shown to have a corner bitten out of it!

Psi-Con Ruse by Phil Goldstein -- Effect: A spectator is asked to freely shuffle a deck of cards. The mentalist displays a book on divination, explaining that he has been studying Cartomancy-the ancient system of telling fortunes with playing cards.
An envelope is then given to the participant to hold and the performer says, "Even though we've never met before, inside this envelope is a Cartomantic reading that I've prepared just for you. Let's see if the system works!"
The top five cards of the shuffled pack are taken and displayed by being inserted into the edge of the book. The spectator is told to choose any of the five cards. The selected card is, for example, the four of clubs. The four unchosen cards are shown to be all different. When the fortune message is removed from the envelope, it reads:
"You have a compassionate nature and strong leadership potential. Your sense of humor is admired by others. Your lucky card is the four of clubs!"
