I love tricks by Richard Raven. Rich is a working magician that puts out tested material that works.

Here is a classic ‘signed-card-in-an-impossible-place’ routine that I think you will like. It has sold exceptionally well in the store and from personal experience I tell you that it is effective and very fun to do.

Here is the effect: A small closed metal can is placed on the table. You ask a spectator to select a card and then sign it. The card is then placed back into the deck and the deck is shuffled, etc. You now make the grand claim that you will find the card, but that you will do so while the deck is behind your back! So saying you place the deck behind your back...you struggle...and yep, you fail to find the card.

Rats! You place the deck on the table and give that look that says you are really embarrassed, but not really, because you are just playing with the audience like a cat with a mouse.........O.k., maybe not a cat with a mouse, but you are looking sneaky in a guilty kinda way. You point to the can on the table. Remember that it has been in full view the entire time. You ask the spectator to open the can. They do and inside is a folded up playing card! You dump the card out and ask the spectator to open it up. Yep......it IS the Signed selection!

This is really quite good. The can you get with the instructions is particularly nice for its size and working. Although the can cannot be examined I have NOT found this to be a problem. You should try this one!

You now make a cone from a borrowed dollar bill and place it over the coins. Instantly the quarters penetrate through the spectator’s hand and fall to the table! The cone is removed to show the penny that was sitting on top of the quarters sitting on the back of the hand. You immediately hand out all the props for examination. That’s it. Wonder Readings by Knepper / Sikes -- Buying the 120 page spiral bound book and the 4 audio cassettes that are supplied may be one of the two or three best professional investments you will make as a magician or a mentalist. Although the material would seem to be more in line with what a mentalist would use the fact is that the addition of ‘psychic’, ‘personality analysis’, etc. readings to the programs offered by a magician can be a HUGE money maker. Consider that on average the mentalist can ask for and get MUCH higher fees than most magicians! Why? Is it because what the mentalist offers is so much ‘better’? NO! It is because many times mentalism is simply more interesting to people who would like to believe that ‘maybe’ someone CAN see into the future. Basic Coin Magic Vol. 2 by David Stone -- This second video from France's David Stone is just superb. The routines are more advanced and it really is NOT for the beginner. But, anyone...ANYONE who loves great coin magic will love this tape.

Pro Viper II -- I can hardly think of a Parlor/Stage trick that I like better than my friend Terry Lunceford's PRO VIPER II Snake Basket routine. It is simply a killer, visual, commercial piece of magic that comes with a hilarious comedy routine to boot! Totally remote control it uses the latest in high tech remote systems to give you perfect and total control of the trick. Here is the basic routine (Remember the video supplied with your Viper has Terry doing his routine at the Magic Castle in Hollywood...and it IS great!): A spectator is asked to come up on stage. She is asked to select a card and SIGN the card. The card is mixed back into the deck and the deck is placed openly next to a small basket on a table center stage. You now engage in some comedy byplay which leads to a colorful custom made spring snake leaping from the basket with the SELECTED AND SIGNED CARD IN IT'S MOUTH!!! It REALLY is the signed card! Card can be removed and handed to your assistant. This is a very strong and entertaining routine that can be made to work with almost any audience type. Quarterly Returns - Dave Eldridge -- David Eldridge is a very clever guy. He comes up with Visual, Commercial magic. I am truly proud to be the first to bring one of Dave's creations to market. Here is the effect: A card is selected and signed across the face in large letters. You, the magician, take the card and tear it into four pieces. The pieces are very openly and fairly displayed including placing them between the fingers of the left hand ala the Multiplying Billiard Balls! The pieces are gathered together and in full view of the audience...they instantly and visibly pop open fully restored!!! This is EASY and FUN to do.

Ring Escape -- Effect: A nut, bolt and lock and key are presented along with a handkerchief. A finger ring is borrowed from a spectator and placed on the bolt. The ring is trapped on the bolt by screwing on the nut. The small brass lock is placed through the hole at the end of the bolt and closed! Now, the handkerchief is placed over the entire assembled ‘ring jail’. You reach beneath and almost INSTANTLY REMOVE THE RING. You whip the hanky away and allow the lock to be opened the screw to be removed and everything examined. This is a GREAT piece of apparatus. Dave and I have been having a ball with it in the shop. The possible approaches to routining are many and varied. How about: You need two duplicate rings. A borrowed ring is placed on the bolt, etc. You reach under the hanky to help it escape. Hmmm... Doesn’t seem to be working. You reach in your pocket and remove your own ‘magic’ ring. The ring is displayed in full view of the audience. You make a magical pass and the ring instantly changes into the Spectator’s ring!!! The hanky is removed and there is the ‘magic’ ring now on the bolt. Solid brass and seriously nice!
